Have you been to the Marketplace?  The Southport Marketplace takes place the third Saturday of every month.  The next one is Saturday, March 16 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.  Enjoy local crafts, baked goods, local honey, plants, jams and jellies, candles and soaps.  The Marketplace is pet friendly.  Enjoy your weekend, shop local with friends, families and even your pets.  The Southport Marketplace is located at 2001 E. Southport Road.

 

Wrap up the Celebration of Women’s History Month and stop by the Poinciana Library, 101 N. Doverplum Ave. Library on Saturday, March 23 from 2-4:30 p.m. and watch Women in Film: Carmen Jones takes place at the Library on Immerse yourself in film history as you watch the talented styling of Dorothy Dandridge.  This movie earned her an Academy Award nomination. 

A community blood drive takes place on Wednesday, March 27. OneBlood’s Big Red Bus will be onsite to receive donations.  This community blood drive runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. 

All Library events are free and open to the public.

 

Save the date!  Poinciana’s Spring Fest Eggstravaganza will be held on Saturday, March 30 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Poinciana Community Lawn, 445 Marigold Ave.  There will be food trucks, vendors, games, bounce houses and an Easter Egg Hunt.

To register your child to participate in the egg hunt, go to bit.ly/3v6cqyZ. The Association of Poinciana Villages (APV) invites craft and commercial vendors as well as food trucks to participate in this event.  Space is limited. There is still time for youths ages 8-17 to participate in Osceola Library Systems annual youth literacy magazine, LitMag.  Submit your original short story, poem and or artwork for a chance to be featured in LitMag (stories and poems can be up to 1,000 words).  This year’s theme is ‘Unlikely Friendships’.  Kids can use their imagination or scenes from their own life to tell a tale through stories, poetry or art. All entries will be reviewed by special guests. Published selections will be in print and online.  The authors or artists will be invited to a reception for a live presentation of their creations.

The deadline is March 31. Submit your original piece of fiction, non-fiction, poetry or artwork to BiblioBoard: https://osceolalibrary.librariesshare.com/c.

 

This year, the Poinciana Council scholarships have a twist. It will award four $1,000 scholarships — two to graduating high school seniors and two to students already enrolled in a technical education program, two- or four-year degree program or Master’s program at a post-secondary educational institution.  These scholarships are open to anyone residing in zip codes 34758, 34759 or 34746. 

The Poinciana Council, which operates under the umbrella of the Osceola Chamber, is now accepting applications. All applications are due on Friday, March 22. Applications for both scholarships are available at https://bit.ly/PoincianaCouncil.
