Saturday’s for early birds, free food and fireworks

Schedule it right, and you could get a lot in on Saturday!

To start, Early Birder Days at Disney Wilderness Preserve (2700 Scrub Jay Trail) begins at 7 a.m. Early Birder Days are for anyone that wants to access the Preserve earlier in the day to hike or observe wildlife that ar e more visible in the early morning hours. Disney Wilderness Preserve is a beautiful place right in our backyard. Visitors can enjoy the unique experience from hiking thru the longleaf pine and wetland habitats just after sunrise. This is not a guided experience and there is no registration in advance required.

Then, District 3 Commissioner Brandon Arrington will host a free drive-thru Summer Food Distribution on at St. Rose of Lima Church (3880 Pleasant Hill Road). Food will be distributed from 10 a.m. to noon. Meal packages will be distributed on a first come-first serve basis to the first 600 families, while supplies last.

Then, the evening will be a blast. The Association of Poinciana Village’s (APV) Annual Fireworks Spectacular will be held from 6-10 p.m. This pre-Independence Day celebration takes place at the Amphitheater Park, (625 Country Club Road, behind the Aquatic Center). The entertainment includes a full line-up of live bands — Joe Black and his Sax is a headliner. Black was a featured act at Poinciana’s 2021 Christmas Celebration in. Professional salsa dancers will keep the beat going.

The field will be full of vendors, business and community organization booths. APV will be raffling off pool and fitness memberships. A kid’s zone and food trucks round out this event.

The grand finale will be a musically synchronized laser and fireworks show. The Fireworks and Laser Show is sponsored by Spectrum and performed by EXTREMEFX. Since an estimated 1,500 to 2,000 will be in attendance, attendees are encouraged to use the provided free shuttle service that will leave from the APV parking lot at the Activity Center. Busses will run from the parking lot to the event, and back again every 15 minutes starting at 4:30 p.m. The last shuttle will leave at 11 p.m.

 

Registration is now open for the Future Stars Summer Volleyball Clinic. Learn all aspects of volleyball utilizing game like drills that will lead to better play. The focus will be on serve, pass, spike, block and dig. This clinic is for girls ages 12- 15 who are beginners and intermediate level players. This clinic is taught by Max Auguste, a former Division 1 Volleyball coach and Gap II certified instructor with USA Volleyball.

The Clinic is being held July 13-15 from 6- 9 p.m. at the Mary Jane Arrington Gym and Aquatic Center (625 Country Club Dr.) Participants should bring sneakers, knee pads, water and a snack. To register go to, www.cflprecisionvolleyball.com. For questions, call Coach Max at 800- 839-2109.
