The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office will be in Poinciana Saturday as part of the “Together as One Christmas Tour” toy giveaway. The team is touring the County, bringing gifts to special children. On Dec. 2 from 1-3 p.m., the tour comes to the Mary Jane Arrington Gym. Meet Sheriff Marcos Lopez and his canine sidekick Bacon. One toy limit per child, ages 12 and under, while supplies last.

 

The Association of Poinciana Villages (APV) presents Holiday Bingo Nights every Friday in December at the Poinciana Community Center on Marigold. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the first number called at 7 p.m. Bingo is for ages 18 and up. There will be food trucks onsite, karaoke and prizes.

 

Get into the spirit when Holiday Karaoke returns to the Poinciana Library on Saturday, Dec. 2 from 2-4 p.m. Sing along with some of the most classic tunes of the season, and it’s free!

 

Remember that really cool Halloween House Light Show at 922 Dartmouth Court (off Marigold in Village 2)? Now it is a really cool Holiday Light Show! The kickoff was Nov. 24 and the show starts at 6:30 p.m. and ends at 10 p.m. (weekends until 10:15 p.m.) The entire show is 40-50 minutes long. The Christmas show takes weeks of set-up and consists of 1,000 lights, flood lights, pixels and other cool elements. Tune your radio to 99.7 FM to “listen to the lights”. Make sure you stop by what has now become a Poinciana holiday tradition!

And, for those looking for more drive-through holiday celebrations, Poinciana Christian Church (3181 Pleasant Hill Road) presents its annual Drive-thru Christmas Story on Dec. 2-3 from 6-8:30 p.m. Journey to Bethlehem with this drive-thru re-creation of The Christmas Story. Featuring live animals and actors, guests can tune into a radio station and enjoy a journey to Bethlehem from the comfort of their vehicle.

 

Laurel Elementary School, 1851 Laurel Ave., presents its Holiday Bazaar on Saturday, Dec. 9 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. They are currently looking for vendors. Reserve your spot to sell crafts, gifts and other items. The cost is $20 per spot, 2 spots for $35. Food trucks can reserve a spot for $35. For more information, call 863-427-1375.

 

A new development of 900+ homes is planned for Marigold Ave. (Village 6). On Wednesday, Dec. 6 at 9 a.m. the Polk County Planning and Development Board will hear a proposal for this development on their agenda. The request includes 40-foot lots on 335 acres. The location of this property is east of Marigold Avenue, north of Lake Hatchineha Road and south of Palmetto Street. This is a new proposal, added to the recently-approved 1,800+ new home development on Lake Hatchineha Road. The public hearing is in the Boardroom, County Administration Building, 330 W. Church St., Bartow.

 

In last month’s meeting of the Polk County School Board, the Board heard about 2 proposed sites for a Polk County High School, which potentially could serve Poinciana students. One site is the Bowen property on Lake Hatchineha Road, a former pasture. The other site is on the north side of Lake Hatchineha Road near the Creek Ranch. The Polk County School Board has a site selection committee studying what site for the new school would best suit the District. The Polk County School Board will vote at the December or January.

 

Online registration is now open for Poinciana Hoops Basketball. Now in its 18th season, this league is for boys and girls ages 5-17. The $150 fee ($25 late fee after Monday, Dec. 31) includes a jersey. Draft day is Saturday, Jan. 13, 2024 with the first game on Saturday, Feb. 3 (practice and game courts TBA).
