Ian! For some, this may have been their first hurricane. Other residents may remember the devastation wrecked by three back-to-back hurricanes in 2004. Now that the storm has passed, here is some information that may help. Osceola County has an online map of road closures due to flooding. To view, go to https://bit. ly/3fAs1P8. For Polk County’s Poinciana residents with questions regarding hurricane debris, call 800-375-0844. For more information, go to https:// bit.ly/3RDsgXe. Florida law prohibits price increases for essentials on storm related services. To report price gouging, go to https:// bit.ly/3RdZeNI or call, 1-866-9-NO-SCAM.
It is interesting to note, as soon as the roadways were somewhat accessible, there were five accidents on Poinciana’s main roadways. In addition, a number of vehicles misjudged flooded roadways and got stuck in the water. But, the storm also showed kindness in the community. Members of Iglesia Tercer Dia Shalom prepared and delivered hot meals for residents in Village 7 who did not have electricity. Countless other unsung heroes helped their neighbors during Hurricane Ian. Let’s hold on to the spirit of community.
