It’s hurricane season—one of the things you may need to know about is potential flooding.
Know Your Risks and How to Prepare will be the topic on Friday, July 12 at 10 a.m. at the Poinciana Library. Presented by Eric Silva-Quintero, from the Osceola County Public Works Department, he will provide important information including how to use County/ FEMA maps, risk mitigation and the importance of flood insurance, even if you don’t live in a designated flood zone. Following the presentation, there will be a Q&A session.
Learn about Water Pollution Basics on Friday, July 19 from 10-11 a.m. Mac Camacho-Viera, Curator of Environmental Education and Natural Resources for Boggy Creek Adventures, will lead you into the world of environmental safety. Become familiar with the signs of contaminated water.
Keep cool and checkout the Family Movie Matinees at the Library the next two Fridays at 2 p.m.. On July 12, the feature movie will be Ralph Breaks the Internet (rated PG). On July 19, check out The Little Mermaid (live action, rated PG). Bring a blanket and pillow from home, relax and enjoy these summer matinees.
Nature Walk: Hike and explore the Nature Conservancy’s Disney Wilderness Preserve with the Pine Lily Chapter of the Florida Native Plant Society, as part of the Walking Library Series. The hike begins at 9 a.m. on Saturday, July 20th.

Do you have any arts and crafts supplies you no longer use? From now until Saturday, July 20, all branches of the Osceola Library system, including the Poinciana Library will be collecting donations. Donating materials will be available for swapping during the Arts and Crafts Supply Swap on Saturday, July 27 at the Hart Memorial Library in Kissimmee.
The Association of Poinciana Villages (APV) is collecting school supplies weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Aug. 2 at the Anthony DePalma Event Center, Poinciana Community Center and APV Fitness Center on Marigold Avenue.
