POINCIANA NEWS — Family fun ahead of the holidays

The Osceola Friends of the Library will be hosting a book sale at the Poinciana Library on Thursday, Nov. 13 from 1-5 p.m., Friday, Nov. 14 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 15 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. This is a great opportunity to restock your bookshelves and support your reading habits. The cost is $5 to fill a grocery size bag of books, $.25 for children’s books, $.50 for paperbacks and $1 for hardcovered books. Friends of the Library bag is available for $2 each.

Get Hired! Essential Job Skills Series will take place on Thursday, Nov. 13 from 10 to 11 a.m. Build your resume, craft a standout cover letter and master interviewing skills.

Story Time Spotlight with Sophia Brown takes place on Wednesday, Nov. 19 from 3 to 5 p.m. This event is geared for school aged children. Special guest storyteller Sophia Brown brings the book to life, encouraging your child’s imagination and forming a love of reading. An author Meet and Greet will follow where books will be available to purchase.

All Library programs are free and open to the public at 101 N. Doverplum Ave.

 

Bingo night has a Thanksgiving twist! The Association of Poinciana Villages (APV) Turkey Bingo takes place on Friday, Nov. 14 at the Poinciana Community Center. Doors open at 6 p.m. with first ball pulled at 7 p.m. APV’s bingo night is for ages 18+, 10 games for $5. The concession stand will be open.

 

HCA Florida Poinciana Hospital will hold a Community Fall Festival on Saturday, Nov. 15 from 12-3 p.m. with facepainting, balloon twists, DJ, bounce house, photo booth and free raffles with prizes.

Also on Saturday, Anointed, Victorious, Outreach Services (AVOS) will hold its third annual Fall Festival and Community Fair on Saturday, Nov. 15 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 1901 S. Poinciana Blvd. This free event offers fun for the whole family and includes live entertainment, bounce houses, carnival games, face painting, free food and raffles. Inglesia La Nueva Jerusalen (4925 Old Pleasant Hill Road), will host a mobile drive-thru food pantry in partnership with Second Harvest Food Bank on Friday, Nov. 21 at 10 a.m.

 

Don’t decorate yet! Do you think your home has the best curb appeal on the block? Nominations are open for the 2025 Poinciana Beautiful Awards, APV’s annual celebration of homeowners that take pride in their property.

Nominations will be accepted until Friday, Nov. 21— then have at it with your lights and your inflatable Rudolfs and snowmen.

Tis almost the season! The Association of Poinciana Villages (APV) Christmas Parade and Celebration is set for Saturday, Dec. 13 at 11 a.m., making its way down Cypress Parkway to Vance Harmon Park.

This family-friendly event features a grand parade with dozens of floats and participants. Immediately following the parade is the holiday celebration at the amphitheater. This celebration features a kid’s zone, a food truck lane, live entertainment, vendors and crafters, a Battle of the Bands and more.
