Black History Month is an annual observance that began in the United States 53 years ago. In recognition, the Poinciana Library (101 N. Doverplum Ave.) will host African American Author Fest on Saturday, Feb. 18 from 2-4 p.m. Meet local authors and learn about their creative and inspiring literary works.
There will also be two Makers Cafes this month. Embroidery Wine Bags is on tap for Saturday, Feb. 11 from 2- 4 p.m. Adults may customize an elegant wine bag for Valentines Day. Supplies will be provided. On Feb. 25 the project will be Mini Book Nook from 2-4 p.m. Elevate your bookshelf by creating a miniature world in this unique book nook. Supplies will be provided.
The Library will host a Community Blood Drive on Wednesday, Feb. 22 from 1-6 p.m. OneBlood’s Big Red Bus will be on site to receive your life saving donation. Face coverings must be worn. For more information, go to OneBlood.org. Did you know February is also Library Lovers Month? From Feb. 15-28, share the many reasons you love your library by dropping off a note or some other recognition.
All Library events are free and open to the public.
If you are an owner, don’t forget to vote in the Association of Poinciana Villages (APV) elections on Feb. 14. This election is for the 2023 Village boards. The polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Poinciana Community Center (445 Marigold Ave.) These elections are for the lower Boards. Open seats are as follows: Village 1 – 4 seats; Village 3 – 2 seats; Village 6 – 5 seats; and Village 7 – 2 seats. Village 9 (Broadmoor) holds and pays for their own elections that are held in December.
Board members are not paid for their service – these are only volunteer positions. Property owners vote in Villages where their home or property is located. All voting information is posted on APV’s website, www. APVcommunity.com.
