POINCIANA NEWS: Buy some books, support Friends of the Library

The Friends of the Library Book Sale starts today! The book sale takes place Thursday, May 8 from 1-5 p.m., Friday, May 9 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday, May 10 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Poinciana Library (101 N. Doverplum Ave.). This is a great opportunity to support your reading habits while also supporting programs sponsored by the Friends of the Library. Cash and credit cards will be accepted. The cost is $5 to fill a grocery size bag, $.25 for children’s books, $.50 for paperbacks and $1 for hardcover books. Friends of the Library bags will be available for $2 each.

Bingo is played every Friday night at the Poinciana Community Center (445 Marigold Ave.), but Friday, May 9 will be an extra special night. Cinco de Mayo Bingo will feature festive fun. Hosted by Humana, the doors open at 6 p.m. with first ball dropped at 7 p.m. The concession stand will be open and 10 games can be purchased for $5. Cash prizes will be awarded and there will be Bingo supplies available for purchase. This event is for ages 18+.

Polk County NFL Flag Football is now registering for the spring season. Registration includes 6 weeks of flag football for children ages U4 to U13. The fee is $75 (uniform kit is $45). The next Rise and Shine: Join early Birding Days on Saturday, May 17 at the Disney Wilderness Preserve (2700 Scrub Jay Trail), between 7-10 a.m. for special early access to the Preserve. Engage with staff about bird species and birding techniques while enjoying a closer look through the Preserve’s spotting scope. The Disney Wilderness Preserve is home to more than 1,000 species of plants and animals and is an essential part of the Everglades eco-system.
