It’s time to get excited about going back to school! Let me hear you, students! Yes, that was a joke.

Love Makes Me Grow will host Chestnut Elementary School’s Back to School Bash and Job Fair on Friday, July 28 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Chestnut Elementary School (4300 Chestnut St.) In addition to back-to-school giveaways local businesses with current job opportunities will be onsite.

This is a great opportunity to learn about Love Makes Me Grow’s gardening classes. Love Makes Me Grow’s mission statement is to, “Teach diverse communities the value and importance of living off the land. We promote and develop the social and economic growth of the individual, regardless of limitations and barriers.” The nine-week program has experts to educate families on how to create their own food garden. Osceola Community Health Services will hold its annual Back to School Event at their Poinciana Clinic, (109 N. Doverplum Ave.) on Saturday, July 29 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Booths at this event will include Pharmacy, Dental, Health Insurance enrollment and info, Phone2Home, Prep and Ryan White, Behavioral Health, Primary Care and Pediatrics.

Special Back to School pricing will be available for school physicals - $15 (reg. $35) and sports physicals $25 (reg. $55). COVID vaccines are also available. Physicals and vaccines are by appointment only. To make an appointment, call 407-943-8600. The first 50 physicals will receive a free backpack with school supplies.

The Reformed Christian Church Poinciana will hold a Back to School Event in Village 8, the corner of Bayberry St. and Dogwood Dr. on Saturday, July 29 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. You will know the spot with the bounce house as a landmark. Kids backpacks, school supplies and lunch will be given away. Understanding Your Credit Report and Score seminar will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 1 from 6-7 p.m. at the Poinciana Library. Take your financial future in a new direction. Learn how financial institutions evaluate your credit, ways to maintain a good credit record and the best practices to repair your credit score. This session is presented by Centennial Bank.

 

Love movies? Then you will love The Movies Lovers Club which meets on Saturday, Aug. 5 from 3-5 p.m. If you appreciate classic and modern cinema, come and dissect and discuss a new movie each month. This month’s movie is, Some Like It Hot. Learn how it inspired the comedy genre.

Book Binding for Beginners takes place on Tuesday, Aug. 8 from 4-5:30 p.m. Learn the process behind binding a notebook. Supplies will be provided.

The Library will hold a Volunteer Fair on Saturday, Aug. 19 at 1 p.m. Make a difference in your community and discover local volunteer opportunities with organizations like Give Kids the World, Osceola Historical Society and more.

All Library programs are free and open to the public

Disney Wilderness Preserve’s Volunteer Invasive Species Removal Work Day will be on Saturday, Aug. 5 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Crotaleria (showy rattlebox) and Caesarweed are plants that are not native to Florida and can be harmful to the environment. Volunteers are needed to hand pull these plants.

All volunteers are required to register. The group of volunteers maybe transported on the preserve in an open-air vehicle that has large steps to get in and out. Volunteers will be walking on uneven and unpaved ground. It is mandatory that volunteers wear closed-toe shoes and long pants and be over 15 years old.
