In Poinciana, Love can make you grow, too — starting today!

In the month of February, with Valentine’s Day right in the middle, who wouldn’t want to grow a little love?

Love Makes Me Grow Inc., a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, offers to “teach diverse communities the value and importance of living off the land,” as its mission statement. “We promote and develop the social and economic growth of the individual, regardless of limitations and boundaries.”

Its nine-week program includes experts who educate families on how to create and maintain their own food garden. The next Love Makes Me Grow nine-step gardening class begins today (Thursday) at 4:30 p.m. at Deerwood Elementary School (3701 Marigold Ave.). The program runs Thursdays through March 3. Create a garden with your family!

The Poinciana Branch Library (101 Doverplum Ave.) is recognizing Black History Month with special programs.

Join local author G.B. Lynch to discuss her book, “We Are Still Suppose To Be Slaves: The Chronicles of Being Black in America” today at 11 a.m. This Black experience novel told through hidden histories brought forth into the spotlight in this hard-to-put-down book.

Learn the history of African jewelry making on Saturday from 2-3 p.m. Handcraft your very own wood-beaded bracelet.

Test your knowledge about Black History Month by playing Black History Trivia on Wednesday from 4-5 p.m. Compete for a chance to win prizes which will be given to the top three scorers.

Valencia College has a new Residential/Commercial Electrician Program that will start on Feb. 21 at the Poinciana Center for Accelerated Training on the Valencia Poinciana campus (3255 Pleasant Hill Road).

The program lasts for 10 weeks. Upon completion students can anticipate entry level pay of $16 to $18 per hour with job placement available.
