There is always something to do at the Poinciana Library – even for adults!
Today (May 5), adults can participate in Paint and Sip from 6-8:30 p.m. Unlock your creativity while enjoying a refreshing beverage. Supplies will be provided. Paint and Sip is presented by local artist Melissa Gomez.
Saturday May 7 and 21: adults can take part in a Mythology Showdown: Gods vs. Monsters from 2:00 to 3:30 p.m. Discover ancient mythologies from around the world and use your knowledge to see who would win in a tournament – style battle.
American Sign Language for beginners is a series which will be held every Monday in May from 6:30-8:30 p.m. This beginner course in American Sign Language is presented by ASL Services. Learn the basic skills required to begin communicating with deaf and hard of hearing people in your community. These classes are taught by deaf instructors. Students will learn to carry-on an everyday conversation with deaf individuals. Games designed to teach basic signs and role playing are used as tools. By the end of the series of classes, some of the skills you will learn are; manual alphabet, numbers, introducing yourself, facial expressions, talking about family and more. On May 12 from 3-4:30 p.m. learn about the Flowers of Shavout. Honor Shavout by discovering traditions and ceremonies surrounding this Jewish holiday.
The month of May is Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month (AAPI Heritage Month). This annual celebration is recognition of historical and cultural contributions of individuals and groups of Asian and Pacific Islanders descent to the United States. The AAPI term includes cultures from the entire Asian continent—including East, Southeast and South Asia—and the Pacific Islands of Melanesia, Micronesia and Polynesia. The Poinciana Library is recognizing AAPI Heritage Month with 2 activities. On May 14 from 2-3:30 p.m., make and take your own Japanese OGI Fan. Expand your knowledge of Japanese culture by learning the history of fan-making while creating your own. Supplies will be provided. On May 28, AAPI Heritage Month recognition continues with the History of Lei Making. Learn the origins of how the Lei came to Hawaii while making your own. Supplies will be provided.

Consider rolling up your sleeves at the Association of Poinciana Villages (APV) 50th Birthday Celebration on May 14 to donate blood.
