Congratulations to Discovery Intermediate School’s Laura Rojas-Gotay for being considered in the top 10 Civics Teachers in the United States. These 10 are the nation’s top 10 middle school and high school civic teachers and have been selected as finalists for the 2024-2025 Bill of Rights Institute National Civics Teacher of the Year Award.
The Bill of Rights Institute is a non-partisan, non-profit organization that teaches civics and history through the market-leading resources and programs. The Institute works to highlight the important work of America’s civic teachers.
All finalists have earned a $1,000 prize. The National Civics Teacher of the Year Award, which comes with a $5,000 top prize, will be announced during the Bill of Rights Institute’s Constitution Day Live program on September 17.

All Florida students are invited to participate in a 2024 Hispanic Heritage Month Contest. The Florida Department of Education and Volunteer Florida’s Hispanic Heritage Month Student Art and Essay contest with the theme “Honoring Hispanic Contributions to Florida’s Success”.
Students in grades K-3 are invited to participate in an art contest, while students in grades 4-12 can participate in an essay contest.

Rise and Shine! The next Nature Conservancy Disney Wilderness Preserve’s Early Birding Day is Saturday, Sept. 21. Stop by the Preserve between 7-10 a.m. for special early access to the Preserve. Engage with staff about bird species and enjoy a closer look through their spotting scope.
Almost 30 years ago, the Walt Disney Company, made a gift by creating Disney Wilderness Preserve. This Preserve was once the 8,500-acre Walker Ranch—a cattle ranch which was situated at the head of the Everglades watershed. Regular hours for the Preserve are Monday thru Friday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The Nature Preserve is located at 2700 Scrubs Jay Trail, Poinciana.
