Two dead rats were found inside a suspicious package at Kissimmee City Hall that caused police to close down the immediate area Tuesday morning.

An investigation is now underway after a member of the Kissimmee Police Department found the package near an employee entrance of city hall.

A section of the downtown area was closed off Tuesday morning as police officials conducted the investigation.

Other law enforcement agencies were called in to assist in the investigation, including the Orange County Bomb Squad, Osceola County Emergency Hazmat Team, Osceola Fire Department and the Kissimmee Fire Department.

Kissimmee police located a person of interest, who advised that two dead rats were inside of the box, which the Orange County’s Bomb Squad confirmed. Police are interviewing that person for more details into why the package was left.

Police cleared the area before noon and all operations resumed as normal.
