Poinciana High teacher under fire for racial comment

A Poinciana High School teacher is under fire after a video surfaced from her in the classroom uttering a racial comment.

According to media reports, the teacher made the comments during a discussion about the Black Lives Matter movement while a student was recording the teacher at the time.

According to the video, the teacher says a “gang of blacks” in metro Atlanta attacked her on a MARTA train at 16-years-old.

“I have as much right as anybody else to dislike blacks for what happened to me. You don't get to sit there and preach to me what I do and don't know,” the teacher says in the video.

The Osceola County School District Human Resources Department has opened an investigation and the teacher has been reassigned out of the school, according to media reports.

School District Debra Pace released a statement saying, “Racism, intolerance, and injustice have no place in our communities or in our schools. In the Osceola School District, we provide opportunities for every child, every chance, every day, and we will continue to inspire our children to build, question, and improve our world.”
