Main Street in Kissimmee closed for pedestrian death investigation

Monday, Main Street was closed just north of downtown Kissimmee while Kissimmee Police investigated a traffic fatality that involved a pedestrian crossing the street.

The investigation had Main Street closed from Oak Street to Neptune Road for nearly three hours late Monday morning. Drivers had to use Central Avenue or Lawrence Silas Boulevard to Broadway to access downtown Kissimmee from the north.

KPD said they received the call just after 9:15 a.m. of a pedestrian being struck by a car on Main near Bass Street, two blocks south of Oak Street. The victim, who still has not been identified, has died. One vehicle remained on scene, but police say they were unsure if the driver involved remained on scene, or who that is.

Orange Blossom Trail becomes Main Street after crossing Vine Street (U.S. 192). It was closed from Oak Street to Neptune Road, with southbound traffic diverted onto Oak, and northbound traffic coming out of the downtown business district sent onto Neptune (turn right on Neptune and then left on Lawrence Silas Boulevard to reach Oak east of the scene).
