The Kissimmee Police Department announced arrests made in two cases, a shooting and a stabbing, that occurred in the month of July
Yosber Capriles Barrios, 19, has been arrested and charged with with three counts of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. He is held in the Osceola County Jail without bond in connection with the shooting of a 15-year-old male that occurred on July 23 on Oak Haven Drive in Kissimmee. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has placed an immigration detainer on Barrios after determining he is in the United States illegally.
KPD officers found the victim around 5:39 p.m. with a gunshot wound to the left arm. The victim was transported to Arnold Palmer Hospital and is recovering from his injuries.
Capriles Barrios was identified the next day as the suspect responsible for the shooting. He was arrested, and appeared before a judge this week, when he was ordered held pending further order from the court.
Police have also made an arrest in a July 11 deadly stabbing at the Days Inn on West Vine Street near Hoagland Boulevard. Detectives identified Jihad Scott, 32, and Keith Swinton Jr, 26, as the suspects in the stabbing of Javaris Florestial. Swinton has been arrested and booked into the Osceola County Jail, while police say Scott remains at large
According to the arrest affidavit, witnesses said Scott and Swinton were waiting for the victim, who had reportedly stolen items from another person's room, in a room at the hotel around 12:49 a.m. When Florestial went to enter the room, police say the suspects chased him outside near a fence, where the victim was punched, kicked and ultimately fatally stabbed.
"I want to commend our detectives for their dedication and the hard work they've put into this investigation," said Chief Charles Broadway. "This arrest is an important step, and we will continue working to ensure those responsible are held accountable."
