The Kissimmee High School Class of 1967 held their 58th class reunion April 25-27 at the Marydia Community Center. The theme was “Together We Stand Stronger.”
KHS was Osceola County African-American public school, before Osceola High integrated the following year, and the school closed. COVID-19 put an end to the in-person gatherings until they restarted last year.
Alums Linda Lewis, Latrice Lewis, Verdess Word and Brenda Hailey hosted a Friday night. On Saturday the activities moved to Marydia Community Center where there was lots of food, games, and prizes. Latrice Lewis, an “honorary member”, stepped up to the plate again by preparing the food Friday night, setting up the buffet table, and providing the music at the community center Saturday afternoon. She was honored for her support of our class.
“We can’t verbalize enough about the presence of Mr. Thurmus Cobb, Mr. William Rivers, and Mrs. Ann Wilcox. They were the center of attraction Saturday afternoon,” said fellow alum Diane Tisdale. “We were also honored to welcome our guests: Mr. Russell Anderson, Mr. Don Wilcox, Mr. Silas Brown, and Ms. Evelyn Wells, all of whom had a fantastic time.”
Before departing, prayer was led by Ms. Verdess Word and Pastor Emeritus Brenda Anderson Hailey. Special recognition was expressed to classmate William Rivers.
The gathering culminated Sunday afternoon at the Longhorn Steakhouse for chew and chat time—bringing an end to the 2025 festivities but continuing a legacy that continues to be recognized and honored by the class yearly: “Growing stronger, staying together longer, hearts are warmer, practice no drama, and our character never dishonors.”
The KHS Class of ’67 will again gather in Kissimmee next year, Tisdale reports.
