The Winter Haven Bridge Club (WHBC) seeks players for duplicate bridge games sanctioned by the American Contract Bridge League (ACBL). Games are run by trained professionals and the club is managed by an all-volunteer board of directors.
Games begin at 12:45 p.m. on Tuesdays and Fridays at the Jeanne Hart Bridge Center, 1805 9th St., S.E., Winter Haven, Florida 33880. Club management is open to holding games on weekends if there is sufficient demand for that.
Individuals at all skill levels, including those with no bridge experience, are welcome. Beginner and intermediate classes are offered. Current members come from a wide geographic area including Auburndale, Clermont, Davenport, Haines City, Kissimmee, Lake Wales, and Winter Haven. During the winter, players come from as far away as Canada.
The ACBL awards Master Points (MPs) for all WHBC games. That includes MPs awarded for participation in regional tournaments when the WHBC participates in such tournaments.
The weekly fee for games is $7 for WHBC members and $8 for non-members. An additional $1 is charged on rare occasions when the WHBC participates in regional tournaments. Annual membership in the club is available for $30, however players need not become members.
Games have been conducted at the club continuously for 33 years.
“Playing bridge has become one of the major ways to keep your mind active and alert, while meeting old and new friends of all ages,” said Sonny Robinson, former WHBC board president, current board treasurer, and regular WHBC competitor.
