Florida Chief Financial Officer Jimmy Patronis encourages all Floridians to see if the state is holding unclaimed property or money in their names at www.FLTreasureHunt.gov.
The "treasure hunt" is a fun and clever term for the state's Unclaimed Property Search database, which says there's a 1 in 5 chance a Floridian has unclaimed property. At a time of year where everyone could use a little extra spending cash, and an unexpected check from the State of Florida could help make things a little brighter this year.
There is no cost to search your and your family’s names and reclaim your funds, and only takes a couple minutes. If you find a claim in your name, fill out the simple online form and you should have a check from the state in weeks!
Often, held money is in the form of unpaid utility or rental deposits, dormant bank accounts, unclaimed paychecks, credit refunds or insurance premiums.
