OBC Awards Night — Weightlifters, Poinciana hoops coach take top honors

A pair of St. Cloud weightlifters earned Male and Female Athletes of the Year, Harmony High School continued its dominance as Osceola County’s best overall athletic program and a pair of outgoing coaches was recognized among the honorees at Wednesday’s Orange Belt Conference Honors Dinner.

Local athletes qualify for state track meet

Osceola County will be heavily represented when the FHSAA hosts the Class 3A (Friday) and Class 4A (Saturday) state track Championships at the University of North Florida in Jacksonville.
Samuel Castillo helped stake Harmony to a 3-1 lead with a third inning double, but Vero Beach came back to defeat Harmony 13-3 and earn a spot in the Class 7A state tournament.

Longhorns baseball runs ends in regional final

The clock finally struck midnight – figuratively and literally -- for the Harmony baseball team Monday into Tuesday. Vero Beach’s Caleb Wood delivered a two-run single to give the Indians a 13-3, 5-inning run-rule win over the Longhorns in the Region 7A-3 championship. The contest began at 7 p.m.

Softball season comes to end for county teams in regional playoffs

Some St. Cloud Little League players got a major league virtual visit after practice Sunday when the local Diamondbacks had a chance to FaceTime with Merrill Kelly, a pitcher for the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Clayton Williams broke up a 1-1 tie with a two-run single in the fifth inning, and Ashton Maggorian pitched 3 1/3 innings of two-hit ball to lead the Harmony Longhorns to a 4-3 win over Treasure Coast in a Class 7A, Region 3 quarterfinal game Tuesday at Longhorn Field.

On a night where his coach said Evan Christ did not have his best stuff, Osceola’s hitters may have to disagree.Christ struck out nine and scattered just two hits as top-seeded Harmony (16-11) captured the Class 7A, District 9 championship with a convincing 8-0 win over the Kowboys (11-12).
