Freshman Ziannah Gooden swept the 100 and 200 meters and ran a winning legs on both the 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams as Osceola High piled up 199 teams to win its first girls Orange Belt Conference track championship since 2019.
On the boys’ side, St. Cloud distance runner senior Brody Ansbaugh won the 800, 1600 and ran a leg on the winning 4x800 relay, and finished third in the 3200 meters run as the Bulldogs defended their boys championship – outdistancing second place Celebration (198.50-137).
“Really proud of the way our girls performed tonight,” Osceola coach Eric Pinellas said. “They’ve worked hard all year and they didn’t take anything for granted.”
Pinellas added that he was particularly excited about the future of the girls’ program, as only one senior scored points for the Lady Kowboys.
It was a dominating Osceola performance, who went 1-2-3 in five different events, including the 100, 200, and 400 meters, long jump and triple jump, and won the 4x100 and 4x400 relays. Other Osceola gold medalists came from Alanna Smith (100 hurdles, long jump), Norelena Forde (400 meters), Cheyenne Pryce (triple jump) and Bailey Devries (Discus).
St. Cloud’s Kyla Perez, the 2025 Osceola News Gazette’s Girls Track Athlete of the Year, put on a show Wednesday – winning the 800, 1600 and 3200 meter runs and running a leg on the winning 4x800 relay team. St. Cloud’s Brooke Bonesteel repeated as OBC pole vault champion.
On the boys’ side, Ansbaugh had plenty of help from his teammates as Danzel Hawkins (110 hurdles) and Santiago Ochoa (100 meters) also won individual events while the Bulldogs took the 4x800 and 4x400 relays. Anderson Olea won the 3200 meters for Gateway.
Gateway’s Maxwell Garcon won three individual events, taking the long jump, triple jump and high jump; while teammate Ethan Antle took the pole vault and javelin and picked up third place points in the long jump and triple jump.
Osceola’s football wide receiver Amir Davis, who is projected to start in the defensive backfield for the Kowboys this fall, ran 50.20 seconds to win the 400.
“This was the last regular season meet where we were worried about team scores,” Pinellas added. “From this point forward, our sole concern is putting our athletes in the best position to advance in the post-season, starting with districts in 10 days.”
