Two local Harmony High School fishermen from the Osceola Anglers High School Fishing Club just returned from the Bassmaster High School National Finals held on Lake Chickamauga, Tenn.

Gage Foster, a 2021 graduate, and Grady Johnson, Class of 2022, placed 123rd out of a 309-boat field.

“The trip was an awesome experience. It’s not every day you can go fish a new lake and catch good fish,” Foster said. “We caught most of our fish in shallow grass throwing a chatterbait and buzzbait. We did fish on a few ledges and brush pile fish in case the shallow bite didn’t work.”

The two fished five separate tournaments, including a State Championship, to secure their spot to fish the Bassmaster High School National Championship.

If you know any high school students interested in joining the Osceola Anglers, the online registration deadline is Sept. 13. There will be two informational meetings regarding the new season on Aug. 23 and 30 at 7 p.m. at Cobblestone Courtyard in St. Cloud. For more information visit www.osceolaanglers.com.

Did you catch any of the ICAST Cup action down at the Kissimmee Lakefront on July 20? The half-day fishing tournament kicked off the start of the ICAST convention in Orlando. The Cup, presented by Major League Fishing, had about 50 teams participating. Congratulations to the Team Lucky Go Fishing/Fish Bites on winning the 2021 title. The team was made up of Terrie Huffmaster, Tonya Michelle and pro Jackson Williams. They had a five-fish limit of 25 pounds, 10 ounces — a new ICAST Cup record! The tournament was also a USA Bass qualifier for the Pan American Bass Fishing Championship and female anglers Melissa Young and Michelle Jalba secured their spot by placing in the Cup.

Trophy Catch Florida has a program where anglers bass weighing more than eight pounds can get rewards and recognition. They also have a level called The Hall of Fame which consists of bass weighing 13 pounds or larger. Statistics show that the majority of the Hall of Fame submissions are caught in the afternoon hours with morning and midday tied for second place, and mostly during the cooler part of the year in the months of February and March. So next time you’re fishing a tournament and coming up on that final hour, don’t give up!

That’s all, anglers! Have a wonderful weekend. Tight Lines!
