Four Corners Charter wins SSAC 5A state baseball title

Four Corners Charter School claimed the Class 5A Sunshine State Athletic Conference baseball state championship on April 13, taking down Jacksonville Duval Charter, 10-0 in five innings.

This is the Coyotes’ first varsity year after two JV seasons. The team will also compete in the FHSAA District 3A-7 tournament next week.

“Three years ago, I initiated the baseball program with a modest JV team. Despite having only 12 total games and no home field, we persevered,” Coach Joseph Morgan said. “Last year, our JV team gained valuable experience by playing a few varsity games. Now, in our inaugural year as a varsity squad, we have formed a partnership with the Trey Mancini Foundation. This collaboration granted us a place to play our home games at a field conveniently located just one mile from our school.” In the SSAC semifinal, Four Corners fell behind The Geneva School, 5-0, after one inning, but rallied to win 15-5. Alex Quinones (triple) and Ronaldo Rivera (double, 3 RBI) each had two hits. Rivera picked up another two hits and 3 RBI in the championship game, which the Coyotes led comfortably 8-0 after three innings.

This year’s team still has no seniors and just three juniors.

“Remarkably, our varsity team, comprised of no seniors, achieved a significant milestone this past weekend. Our transformation from an unknown team to a spirited group of young baseball players, fueled by determination and a chip on their shoulders, has been remarkable,” Morgan said.
