Dear Editor:

As I read a recent letter to the editor (“Hope for the New Year”, Jan. 11) I realized that the letter was written to only a particular group of people. The writer identified this group as American Patriots that will help turn this country around. The writer wishes a year of health and success for the Republican Party.

That strikes me as a pretty exclusive wish, both for our health and the Republican Party. Interestingly it’s the lack of action by that party, the inability to move any measure through Congress without deep spending cuts, including healthcare. This year of health can be highlighted by the 20 million Americans who enrolled in health care through the Affordable Care Act … while Donald Trump has pledged to eliminate the ACA.

Our writer calls her American Patriots to pray to their “Lord and Savior” to help “the right people” get elected to all offices local, state, federal, including Donald Trump.

This writer pleads with her readers to pray to the Lord for blessing to elect those who share her vision of hope, her hopes for the Republican Party.

The Lord does not enter into the divisiveness of his creation. He takes no sides in the political nonsense of our world. He created us with free will, allowing us to be who we were created to be. There are times that we all wonder how in His name things could be so lopsided. How in the name of “The Lord” can we be so cruel? How can we treat some of God’s creation as less than, disposable, unworthy of our attention, not ones to love?

We need elected officials whose only purpose is to serve all God’s Children.
