GUEST EDITORIAL: The Never Bored Lifestyle

It started right in my own backyard in Poinciana. One afternoon I looked up and saw two White Ibises soaring through dramatic clouds. I grabbed my camera, snapped the photo, and felt that familiar spark of wonder. No expensive trip required. Just me, my Nikon, and wild beauty showing up in the skies uninvited.

That moment gave me both the title and the words I had been searching for but couldn’t quite gather in my mind— words to express what I’ve been doing for years. It became the foundation of how I now live.

Most days you’ll find me practicing what I call “garden photography.” I wander through my yard capturing statues nestled among blooming salvia, spider plants spilling over birdbaths, and concrete garden dresses standing gracefully among the greenery. There’s a quiet joy in photographing how sunlight dances across weathered garden figures or how a lizard pauses beside a cherub statue.

These aren’t just photos— they’re small celebrations of the peaceful sanctuary I’ve created right at home. A concrete dress surrounded by pink flowers. A white statue of a girl reading peacefully beside a solar light. Each image reminds me that beauty doesn’t have to be far away or expensive. It can be cultivated and appreciated exactly where you are.

Living in Central Florida means my backyard is daily wildlife theater. White Ibises, wood storks, hawks, butterflies, and the occasional raccoon all make appearances. Instead of reaching for my phone to scroll, I reach for my Nikon. Every sighting feels like a personal gift from nature.

This simple habit has turned me into an accidental conservationist. The more I observe and photograph local birds and plants, the more passionate I’ve become about protecting the habitats that make these moments possible—especially as suburban development continues around us.

The Never Bored Lifestyle isn’t about doing more. It’s about noticing more; choosing curiosity over boredom; trading passive screen time for active creation. It’s finding joy and wonder in your immediate surroundings instead of constantly looking elsewhere.

You don’t need to live in a tropical paradise (though Central Florida certainly helps). You just need to start paying attention. Step outside. Plant something. Watch the birds. Arrange a few garden statues and photograph how the light changes them throughout the seasons. Document your own little corner of the world.

A simple formula is this:

Presence—Be outside and truly look around.

Creativity—Take photos, keep a journal, or sketch what you see.

Connection—Share what you discover with others.

Purpose—Let your observations inspire you to care more deeply about your environment.

Since adopting this lifestyle, I genuinely can’t remember the last time I felt bored. There’s always something beautiful unfolding if you’re willing to slow down and look.

So here’s my invitation to you: Try the Never Bored Lifestyle for one week. Put your phone on silent, step into your yard or nearest green space, and see what captures your attention. You might be surprised at how rich and rewarding your everyday world can be.

I’d love to see what you discover.
