Osceola County Sheriff’s deputies made two arrests Wednesday as the pair were breaking into cars at a local water park — with a two-year-old boy in the back seat.

Jamika Spencer, 29, and Nicholas Rivera, 33, were arrested and charged with burglary to a conveyance and child neglect. As of midday Friday. Spencer remained held on a $3,000 bond after making an initial court appearance Thursday, while Rivera was out on bail.

Sheriff’s officials said the office received multiple reports of burglaries of vehicles at the Island H2O water park in west Kissimmee and began surveillance. This saga began Wednesday, after detectives observed a male and female enter a 2025 grey Hyundai from a residence and drive to the park. The male passenger was observed exiting the vehicle, while on the phone and attempting to open several parked vehicles, successfully gaining entry to one unlocked car. During this time the female driver remained in the Hyundai, clearly on the phone with the male passenger, acting as a lookout, a Sheriff’s report said.

The vehicle left that park, and surveillance continued from the air, following it to Typhoon Lagoon on Disney property, where a police report says Spencer was observed changing clothes. After noticing law enforcement, the suspects immediately left the area. The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office Aviation Unit was able to maintain visual contact with the Hyundai until detectives caught up and conducted a tactical vehicle takedown around 4:30 p.m. Wednesday near a ChampionsGate Walgreens. While taking the pair into custody, deputies found a two-year-old boy, secured in his car seat in the back seat. The child was uninjured and released to a family member, the Sheriff’s Office said. A records check revealed both Spencer and Rivera had suspended New York driver’s licenses.

Police say an investigation is pending into connecting the suspects to other area burglaries. The arrest report stated Rivera, whose charging affidavit showed a Poinciana address, has a criminal history in Orange County of burglary and theft arrests.
