As Osceola County Sheriff’s deputies continue to investigate a deadly early Saturday morning shooting at a vacation rental home near ChampionsGate, investigators said they are ramping up enforcement of an ongoing problem—crimes committed at large and loud parties at these rented homes— that surfaced about 10 years ago and crested again during COVID in 2020 to get around event shutdown mandates.
Deputies still have no suspects in deadly shootings that took the life of an 18-year-old Saturday and a 16-year-old at another rental property just west of Kissimmee on March 14. Another shooting took place at a vacation rental just to the west of that in September 2025.
Sheriff’s spokesperson Capt. Kim Montes said Sheriff Chris Blackmon is conducting operations on weekends to try to catch these parties and disperse the guests attending them—before anything unlawful or lethal occurs.
“When we get intelligence that one of these parties may be happening, we alert our road patrols to try to disperse them before they get going,” Montes said.
On Saturday, deputies found a large gathering of people when responding to a call of a shooting just after 1 a.m. on Somerset Hills Drive in Davenport. Three people were shot, including Daesean Anthony Moctezuma Orland, 18, from Clermont. Montes said 911 calls came in after the shooting from the home rented as a VRBO.
Detectives ask anyone with information to contact Crimeline 1-800-423-TIPS, to provide any information about this shooting.
“We’re learning that whoever’s putting on these events puts out a QR code that gets people in the gates of these communities,” Montes said. “Sometimes security guards aren’t doing their due diligence. Osceola County has a lot of these rental homes, and we’re working with the State Attorney’s Office to see if we can hold the property owners, who in most cases live out of state, responsible.”
While it’s the disturbing the peace call that generally sends police to such a large, loud party, consuming alcohol by or serving it to minors are some of the illegal activity that occurs, and with so many people in a small area, theft, sexual battery and the accidents that come of many people quickly scattering after police arrive are the indirect crimes—as well as these shootings—result.
“The Sheriff wants to focus on these house parties to combat the lawlessness, but now we’ve had these two murders, and we’re putting emphasis on finding the shooters and seeing if they are targeting attacks or gang related,” Montes said.
Until then, Osceola deputies will continue to act on tips they get and conduct extra patrols on weekends, such as the upcoming Mother’s Day weekend in conjunction with a large hip-hop event scheduled for Orlando, Montes said.
