Friday will mark the 19th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

On that tragic day, 19 militants associated with the Islamic extremist group al Qaeda hijacked four airplanes and carried out suicide attacks against targets in the United States. Two of the planes were flown into the twin towers of the World Trade Center in New York City, a third plane hit the Pentagon just outside Washington, D.C., and the fourth plane crashed in a field in Shanksville, Penn. Almost 3,000 people were killed during the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

We wanted to know where were you when the attacks occurred. We posted the question on our Facebook page and here were some of your responses.

• I was doing arrangements in the courtroom. Attorney Nick Kelley approached the bench and told me. I told those in the courtroom what happened and took an immediate recess.

• We were playing golf at Disney World when the pro came out and told us they were closing the course. We didn’t know what was going on until we went in the pro shop and saw the TV.

• I was outside with my kids and my husband told me to come inside. When this happened, all I could do is cry I remember the little girls making a song for her dad.

• Building the Marriott in Lake Mary.

• Fifth grade, all the teachers turned on the live news coverage as we saw the second plane hit. My teacher started to cry, her brother was in one of the buildings and she couldn’t get a hold of him. Debris and people started falling to their deaths. Not too long after we all watched as both buildings, holding 3,000 people, began to collapse.

• I was at work when I heard about it, and as soon as I got home, I turned on TV. I was and still so sad for those innocent people who died that day.

• I was getting off the subway and saw the first building was on fire. We didn’t know what was going on, just “oh the WTC is on fire.” That’s odd. A few minutes later heard the explosion of the second plane hitting. Saw people falling or jumping out of buildings. Then walked across the Brooklyn Bridge and someone was screaming, “The Pentagon has been bombed!” I knew the name Osama bin Laden because of the explosion the month prior in Nairobi, but you never think it would happen here. I looked back while walking across the bridge and saw the first building collapse. After that you couldn’t see lower Manhattan.

• Working local control in the Kissimmee Air Traffic Control Tower, we were very busy and then the order came through to put every plane on the ground, it was hectic to say the least...

• Poinciana High School Math Class with Mrs. . Rodrigez I remember it so vividly everyone in the room was in complete shock, crying about family members and friends in NY, we watched the news over and over again how the planes just crashed in to the buildings it was all so sad

• At work-one of our family members called and told us to turn on the TV.

• I was a first responder and got the call that a plane hit the tower. I along with many others from my precinct responded across the bridge to assist. It was mayhem. We saw people jumping from the high floors because they were trapped. We all were covered in dust and dirt and inhaled smoke but proceeded to recover anyone we could. I was there for 9 days recovering the deceased. It was definitely a sad and horrible day. Today I live with COPD and PTSD but thanking God every day for his Grace.

• I was a first year teacher at Discovery Middle School in my social studies classroom. My wife emailed me to look at the TV. Within minutes the campus was chaos with parents all over the place pulling their kids out of class. Schools never looked the same. Within a year, all the schools in Osceola were surrounded with chain link fence.
