With four weeks left, the 2021-22 school year is winding down — can you believe it?

The final month of the year starts with a pair of celebrations.

Teacher Appreciation Week kicks off on Monday, and for the week of celebrating educators May 2-8, businesses and community groups are encouraged to engage with a school. Ways include donating company promotional items for the staff, sponsoring a catered breakfast or lunch — can be done for $300-500 by coordinating with the Adult Learning Center of Osceola (ALCO)’s culinary program — or donating coupons, gift cards or prizes for raffles for teachers and staff.

Those who want to participate should contact the district’s Community Relations Department at 407-870-4007.

As for the district’s students — namely graduating seniors who are preparing for “the next step” — the annual Decision Days will be held at campuses across the county.

Where athletes have “signing ceremony” when they officially sign paperwork for sports scholarships, Decision Day is for the rest of seniors, as they declare what they want to do with their futures and decide where they will go after high school, whether it be college, technical school, the military, or the workforce. The celebrations were held virtually the last two years due to COVID-19.

The events began Monday at Gateway High School, with signing ceremonies at Poinciana, where the district tradition began nearly a decade ago, Tuesday.

Here’s a list of upcoming Decision Days. Highlights from each school will be shared on Instagram and Facebook (@ friendlyneighborhoodccc):

Thursday (today): Osceola County School for the Arts, 9:30-10:30 a.m.; Osceola High, 12:30-2:30 p.m.;

Friday: Harmony High, 8-10 a.m.; Osceola Virtual School, 12-1 p.m.; Celebration High, 11:45 a.m.-1:15 p.m.;

Students have the opportunity to have individual recognition on social media by using the templates that Mr. Anthony Cook, Coordinator of College and Career Counseling for the Osceola School District, has shared @friendlyneighborhoodccc on Instagram. By following the instructions, these will be shared on Instagram and Facebook throughout the month of May to celebrate student decisions. Students are encouraged to use hashtags #sdoc4e #sdocgoodtogreat #bettermakeroom #celebrate #decisionday22.
