Andrew Moon
Osceola Science Charter School (OSCS), a STEM-focused, tuition-free public charter school serving Grades K-8 in Osceola County – and part of the Orlando Science School (OSS) system – recently welcomed a new principal, Andrew Moon.
Moon brings 12 years of experience working as an educator, administrator and mentor to his new role, including eight years with OSS at the Orlando campus, where he’s taught a variety of grade levels and AP math courses. Most recently, he served as the Assistant Principal of Instruction at the OSS middle school campus.
“Mr. Moon has been part of the OSS system for many years and has proven himself as an invaluable asset to our students,” said Yalcin Akin, executive director, Orlando-Seminole-Osceola Science Charter Schools. “I will personally support his transition into this new role and look forward to the experience and dedication he will bring to the Osceola Science Charter School team.”
“Since its founding in 2015, Osceola Science Charter School has grown from 200 to over 1,000 students – and I’m excited to help foster continued growth and innovation as the school’s principal,” said Andrew Moon. “It’s a privilege to work with my fellow educators in providing our students with the best STEM-focused education in Central Florida.”
In addition to teaching, Moon has served as an OSS math coach, providing support and guidance to students participating in state-level invitational competitions. In 2018, he was nationally recognized by the Mathematical Association of America (MAA) with the Edyth May Sliffe Award for his contributions to the community in preparing and mentoring students in competition math.
Moon graduated from Florida State University in 2008 with a bachelor’s degree in applied and computational mathematics.
