The annual Mecum Auction got off to a roaring start this past weekend, with attendance at near capacity for the Osceola Heritage Park venue last Saturday and Sunday, and attendance has remained high throughout the week.

And it's not over.

The final weekend will feature some of the most-watched cars coming up for auction, including the 1965 Shelby Mustang GT350R Prototype, which last sold for $3.8 million. A handful of the registered cars for auction are expected to break the $1 million mark, with cars like the 1965 Shelby Mustang to go for $4 to $5 million.

Mecum officials expect the final sales total to exceed last year’s Kissimmee record of $140 million.

“Across the board, everything is exceeding our expectations,” said Harold Gerdes, Vice President of Mecum Auctions, “we could not be happier right now.”

Vehicles are not the only items up for auction. Terry Michaelis, owner of ProTeam Corvette in Napoleon, Ohio, is the holder of Mecum Bidder badge No.1 and is auctioning the prestigious badge on January 14th as a fundraiser for Curing Kids Cancer. Michaels was awarded the badge many years ago for being one of Mecum’s longest-running and most loyal customers and friends. Bragging rights and complimentary lifetime Mecum Gold Charter membership await the winning bidder. Bidder Badge No. 2 sold for $236,000 this past May, at Mecum’s Original Spring Classic auction in Indianapolis, Indiana.

The Mecum Auction at Osceola Heritage Park continues through Sunday.
