On April 1, Gov. Ron DeSantis announced that the state of Florida was being shut down amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The order mandated that Floridians stay home unless they’re going out for “essential services or activities.”

The order took effect April 2 at midnight and was set for 30 days.

So, on the News-Gazette Facebook page, we asked your thoughts about the statewide stay-at-home order and here’s what you had to say:

• I agree it needs to be done but only essential people need to be out like hospital staff, law enforcement and not others, open essential businesses on certain days only and times, yes we need to stay home this will not be over at all by May if it continues the way things are now.

• Little late.... and far too many “essential” jobs. My question - companies that are “essential” and or refuse to shut down, who is responsible if any of their employees gets COVID-19? And remember these employees go home to their families. Seems our Governor needs to reevaluate what’s “essential.”

• Well churches are going to be open people are still traveling. So people still going to be infected & dying, if he doesn’t shut down the place completely.

• Flattening the curve does not negate the virus, it spreads it out so our medical facilities are not overwhelmed and harsh decisions will not need to be made as they had to in Italy.

• It’s just destroying small business. False sense of wellbeing.

• I agree, but this should have been in place once aware of how easy virus would spread. The counts are high it will take time to get people healed. Stay safe everyone.

• Is it really shutting down? Seems like a lot of essential jobs. Not sure If that is going to help. We need to really make a drastic change. Make everyone wear masks if they are out and about. Homemade ones if necessary.

• Lots of people are still out and about. I have seen my neighbors welcome family members in, I’ve seen boyfriends and girlfriends coming and going... this is not OK. I need to get back to work!! Let’s get this thing under control!

• I agree! Need to shut down places that are really not essential during this time. People are still out and about like they are on vacation. Stay safe and stay home!

• Is not an actual shut down since the list of essential is way too long and full of unnecessary essentials

• It’s all the people who have not been practicing the guidelines, and the same idiots will violate this and will cause it to go on longer or the officials will be forced to strengthen the order.

• I agree, but everything should be shutdown except essential to me, that doesn’t include churches or hardware stores.

• Pretty much everything is essential. Until we shut down churches, restaurants (take out and delivery), we might as well have no shut down at all. People go to stores just to walk around. This isn’t a vacation.

• I live in NY, people are dropping like flies. Stay the hell home!

• Agree. This should have been done weeks ago. You can’t have different standards all over the state. All or nothing. Some counties like ours already was in compliance to the order

• It’s great but ppl (people) aren’t listening, there is still too many ppl out and about.

• Too little too late! He is responsible for all deaths prior to this “order”.

• Too little, too late... he allowed spring break.... what was he thinking? Then he forbids two stranded cruise ships from docking... all while people were dying onboard.

• I have heard Home Depot is packed!

• The president and his experts told us to stay home before this. But people didn’t listen.

• He needs to tell our bills that.....

• Yes! But then people need to quit going to Lowe’s and Home Depot to buy paint gardening stuff because their bored at home! That stuff is not essential.

• There is no difference to what local municipality are doing. It’s not a shutdown.

• Why are we still shuffling flights? People need to stay home, not fly.

•It took him too long to make a decision that was a no-brainer.

• It’s long overdue.

• Agree 100 percent, but extremely disappointed that he is still allowing church services. Totally counter productive!

• If we can’t stop people from other states entering, hint New York vs. Rhode Island lawsuit threat, then this is the next best thing. • Planes are still flying,

• Planes are still flying, but not much is said about that, so much for this lockdown.
