A multimedia journalist is the new face of Kissimmee communications.

Stephanie Bechara was recently named the city’s communications and public affairs manager.

The Osceola News-Gazette recently inquired about her business background and also received some fun facts.

ONG: What was it about the city of Kissimmee that brought you back here?

Bechara: I covered Osceola County for seven years as a multi media journalist. I signed a contract with Spectrum News 13 to be their bureau reporter and I recalled thinking, “I will pay my dues for a year or so and then try to move on to the main newsroom covering Central Florida’s big city: Orlando.” But before I knew it, I had a sense of belonging and I just couldn’t let Osceola County go. I was not only covering breaking news here, but making it a point to find those “evergreen” stories. Those are the stories that made me fall in love in where the area I was serving.

ONG: What do you hope to accomplish in your new role?

Bechara: In my new role, I expect to be a liaison between the city of Kissimmee, the public and the media. I want to amplify the city’s goals and objectives and keep the message consistent. I hope to help lead the conversation, all while highlighting what the city has to offer.

ONG: How do you think your past experience as a journalist will benefit the city?

Bechara: I think my storytelling background can help me better showcase the city of Kissimmee. I feel like I have an advantage since I am not only a former journalist, but my beat was specifically in this area. I also think that my background in TV news can come in handy when working under pressure during a potential emergency because I’ve learned to remain calm and still be able to tactfully deliver the message.

ONG: Tell us about you and your family.

Bechara: I’m 33 years old. I was born Nov. 23 (I’m a Thanksgiving baby). I live in Poinciana with my husband, Raydel, who is an electrician, and my two babies. I have a little girl who just turned 4 years old, her name is Starlett. My baby boy, Zion, is 1 year old. I absolutely love my community, especially my neighbors. They always seem to be dropping by with delicious Puerto Rican food and I know I can lean on them for support.

ONG: What do you do in your free time?

Bechara: I like to take the kiddos out to different playgrounds or try a new restaurant with my hubby.

ONG: As the new spokesperson, what would you like to say to the city of Kissimmee?

Bechara: I wish to earn the trust of the residents of Kissimmee. I want to work with our community partners, key stakeholders and residents to make sure we are striving to progress. My intention is to keep residents in the loop about all the resources we have available within the city. People also need to know we are here for you and you can contact us (Stephanie.Bechara@Kissimmee.gov) with any concerns at any time.
