Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a hit-and-run crash that became fatal when the victim died from his injuries last week.

The crash occurred on Feb. 12 at approximately 9:35 p.m. when FHP investigated a hit and run crash at Poinciana Boulevard and Vineland Road (State Road 535) in Kissimmee. A 48-year-old Kissimmee man on a bicycle headed eastbound on Poinciana toward 535 was struck. FHP says the driver of what could be a a silver 2011 Hyundai Elantra also headed eastbound on Poinciana failed to maintain a single lane and drifted towards the outside shoulder and struck the cyclist. The driver then fled the scene.

The victim was transported to HCA Florida Osceola Hospital in critical condition and pronounced deceased on Feb. 23.

FHP was able to find two video clips — one shows a male driver of a silver Elantra stopping in the eastbound lanes of Poinciana near 535 and walking out of frame. The next shows the male go back to the car, get in and leave.

FHP said its traffic homicide investigators believe the suspect's Elantra should have damage to the front right. FHP is now seeking the public’s assistance with locating the vehicle involved in this crash. Any mechanics or auto body shops that may have repaired a vehicle matching the above vehicle description is asked to contact FHP.
