Body

The Florida Department of Transportation is working on improving the safety of a stretch of 13th Street east of downtown St. Cloud.

FDOT will hold a public meeting on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. at the Veterans Memorial St. Cloud Library (810 13th Street), regarding its plans for that stretch of highway, also called U.S. 192, at intersections at Florida Avenue, Indiana Avenue, and Michigan Avenue.

The agency is about to embark on a project to enhance pedestrian safety at the intersections. Plans are to add new pedestrian activated signals at Florida Avenue and Indiana Avenue, and upgrading the traffic and pedestrian signals at Michigan Avenue.

That stretch of road has seen numerous accidents involving pedestrians and bicycle riders being struck over the years. It is also within blocks of a number of schools — Lakeview Elementary, Michigan Avenue Elementary at St. Cloud Middle and High Schools.

At the in-person presentation, attendees can view a looping presentation and project displays, speak with project team members, and submit comments or questions.

Aside from attending in person, FDOT is offering multiple ways for the community to participate in the meeting.
