Osceola deputies are searching for a suspect who stole $10,000 from an elderly resident in a phone scam.

On Wednesday, the victim received a call from an unknown person, who told that her grandson was arrested and needed $10,000 to bond out, according to an Osceola County Sheriff’s Office report.

The victim agreed, and withdrew the money. The unknown caller then informed her they would send someone to her home to pick up the money. Later that day, an unknown man arrived at the victim’s residence and took the $10,000.

The victim later discovered the incident was a scam, and that her grandson had not been arrested. There is no vehicle information available at this time.

“Sheriff Russ Gibson and the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office are committed to protecting our community and holding those criminals responsible that take advantage of our most vulnerable residents,” said Maj. Jacob Ruiz in a press release.

The Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone who can help identify this suspect or has any information on the case to contact the agency at 407-348-2222 or Crimeline at 1-800-423-8477, where information leading to a felony arrest may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
