AT&T’s cellular network has suffered a widespread outage nationwide Thursday morning, with cellular service and internet down and leaving customers unable to place calls, text or access the internet.. Verizon and T-Mobile customers reported some network outages, too, they appeared far less widespread.

The outages carried safety implications as customers potentially found themselves unable to contact emergency services and encounter difficulties making phone calls. However, texts can still be received if your device is connected to WIFI. Some iPhones may allow for 911 calls using the SOS function, per the Osceola County Sheriff's Office.

More than 74,000 AT&T customers have self-reported outages on digital-service tracking site DownDetector.

AT&T acknowledged that it has a widespread outage but did not provide a reason for the system failure.

“Some of our customers are experiencing wireless service interruptions this morning. We are working urgently to restore service to them,” AT&T said in a statement to CNN. “We encourage the use of Wi-Fi calling until service is restored.”

The company said some parts of its network are beginning to recover but it did not have a timeframe for when its system would be fully restored.
