To celebrate its 50 years of service to those in Osceola County who need it the most, join the Osceola County on Aging (OCOA) in a virtual brunch Thursday.

You can celebrate from the comfort of your home or office while enjoying a meal of fine comfort food -- Chicken & Waffles -- from Big John's Rockin BBQ. Along with celebrating its 50th anniversary OCOA is looking to raise awareness and support to continue serving the community for the next 50 years.

Guests can purchase a meal to go for $15, or group to-go sponsorships (VIP Meal Delivery for 10 or 20 Meals to Go) from Big John’s Rockin BBQ online at https://osceolagenerations.org/shop, through Monday to help raise monies for the OCOA. The guests can coordinate picking up their meal from an email that will go out on Monday on the pick-up time and how many meals at the Osceola Council on Aging prior to the event start time on Thursday.  The guests can log on to Facebook and the Anniversary Brunch webpage at  https://osceolagenerations.org/golden-anniversary-brunch/ at 11 a.m. Thursday.

“We are very excited to have this event this year virtually, so we can continue to connect with our community and at the same time raise money for our Meals on Wheels clients,” said Wendy Ford, President of the Osceola Council on Aging. “Our clients need our help more than ever and we are grateful to our community for helping us to continue our efforts and services for this great place we call home.”

At the same website you order your Golden Anniversary meals, you can enter a raffle to win a 2021 Mercedes GLA-Class Luxury SUV. OCOA has partnered with Mercedes-Benz of South Orlando to offer the vehicle to raise money for the Council’s social service programs which enable self-sufficiency for seniors, disabled adults, and disadvantaged families, as well as funding for the OCOA’s expansive Meals on Wheels initiatives.

Cost of raffle tickets are $25 each, with the drawing scheduled for December 31, 2021. The winner of the car raffle need not be present to win or live in the state of Florida.

“The Osceola Council on Aging receives more requests for nutrition services than any other of our social service programs offered,” Ford said. “With the pandemic hitting Central Florida especially hard, our Meals on Wheels and food pantry funding capabilities have been overwhelmingly affected.”

According to Ford, the Council has been required to be creative in their fundraising efforts while finding new and innovative ways to attain donations to support the general program demand for Osceola seniors and families.  One of those creative strategies is the OCOA’s second annual car raffle.

“This raffle will help supplement a portion of funds from the many fundraisers we have been unable to host due to the ongoing, and unfortunate pandemic. It’s a win-win."
