Osceola welcomes new Corrections chief, honors longtime IT director
A newcomer, a 40-year employee and a six-time chairperson—they were all part of Monday’s County Commission meeting.
Brandon Arrington, who’s been on the Commission since 2008, was elected to be the commission chair for the sixth time Monday; he previously served that role in 2011, 2015, 2017, 2021, and 2022. He succeeds Viviana Janer. Cheryl Grieb was elected Vice Chair.
The Chair’s duties include running commission meetings and heading ceremonial events like ribbon cuttings and groundbreakings, as well as delivering the annual State of Osceola County address.
“My thanks to the Board for their support, and to Commissioner Janer for a fantastic example to follow for the coming year,” Arrington said. “I thank the Board for their support, and I hope we’ll have another amazing year in 2026.”
Janer has been on the Board since 2014, and has filed to run for her seat again in 2026.
“I want to express to the entire Board I have been greatly honored to have served as your Chair,” she said. “I hope that I have lived up to your expectations.”
As part of the first meeting of every month, the Commission honors county employees who reach milestone employment anniversaries, starting at 10 years. County IT Director Rich Van Natta blew through that decades ago, as he received his 40-year commendation Monday.
The county Monday also approved the appointment of Everett K. Neely as the Chief of Corrections. He comes to Osceola from the Orange County Corrections Department, where he was most recently the Deputy Director of Operational Services. He spent three decades with the Broward Sheriff’s Office, ultimately retiring as Director of Detention after managing one of the largest local jail systems in the country.
