As of today, school is back in session for both Osceola and Polk Counties. Now more than ever, drivers need to be aware of children walking to bus stops or schools and extra mindful of the rules of the road. Trying to pass a stopped school bus is illegal and may result in a tragedy. There will be more traffic on the already crowded Poinciana roadways. Give yourself extra time to get where you are going.

It’s almost time to breakout those Hawaiian shirts and dust off those grass skirts for the Association of Poinciana Village’s (APV) Adult Luau! The Luau will be held on Saturday, Aug, 26 from 8-11 p.m. at the APV’s Victory Pool (445 Marigold Ave.)

There will be a cash bar w/alcoholic and nonalcoholic drinks, DJ, fun and games, dancing and the pool will be open. To attend, you must register at www.tinyurl.com/3f8xd8u8.

Speaking of the pool, it’s still August, that means it’s still pool season — one of the few ways to beat the heat these days without using the AC. The pool hours at the Mary Jane Arrington Aquatic Center (625 Country Club Dr.) and Victory Pool are Wednesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The Association of Poinciana Villages (APV) has partnered with several organizations to use this facility, including Special Olympics practices and meets, Osceola County Fire Rescue, which uses this facility for training under water rescue, Poinciana and Liberty High schools swim teams and Osceola County schools, which provide swim lessons for kindergarten students. There are also scuba diving lessons operated by Kissimmee Dive Shop.
