Harmony High School alum Nate Herstich, now a freshman quarterback at Bluefield (Va.) University, was named the NAIA Offensive Player of the Week for the week of Oct. 25.
Herstich, who was the Mid-South Conference Appalachian Division Offensive Player of the Week, the week before, accounted for 423 yards of total offense and nine touchdowns in a 79-64 win against St. Andrews. Herstich passed for 378 and 8 TDs, and ran for 45 and another score. The eight TD passes set a new school record, and also eclipsed most season and career touchdown passes (33), and most passing yards in a season (2,605) in only eight games. He leads the NAIA nationally with 327 yards passing per game.
He followed that performance with four more TD passes and a 23-for-39 passing day for 315 yards in a 44-23 win over Kentucky College on Oct. 30. It was the Rams’ third win in a row.
On the year, Herstich, who won Bluefield’s starting QB role early in the season, has thrown for 2,605 yards and 33 touchdowns in eight games, six as the starter.
As a junior at Harmony in 2017, Herstich threw for over 2,361 yards, a Longhorns’ single-season record, and set an Osceola County record with 30 touchdown passes. He was the News-Gazette’s Offensive Player of the Year that season.
