Property Appraiser Scarborough honored with Golden Eagle award

Annually, the Central Florida Council of the Boy Scouts of America (soon to be called Scouting America) gathers to honor someone in Osceola County who embodies and applies Scouting’s principles in their everyday and professional life.

This year’s honoree, Katrina Scarborough, Osceola County’s five-time elected Property Appraiser, was named the Golden Eagle winner on Tuesday, April 22 at Osceola Heritage Park. She should be familiar with the award, as she’s sat on the local presenting board since 2021.

Scarborough, a lifelong Osceola resident, was described by event emcee Brian Wetzel as a cheerful servant.

“Through volunteerism, sponsorships and serving the community on various nonprofit boards speaks to her passion and commitment to excellence for the community,” he said.

“I am deeply humbled and honored you time out of your personal lively to be here to support the Scouts,” Scarborough said in a short acceptance speech. It may have been because her nephew has received his Eagle Scout rank and is planning the Court of Honor this weekend.

And support the attendees did, to the tune of combining to raise just over $67,000 for the Central Florida Council.

Wetzel spoke during the event about the 12 Points of the Scout Law – being trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful thrifty, brave, clean and reverent.

“Tell me you’ll be those things in a job interview, and you’ll get hired. If you demonstrate those things, you’re going to get promoted,” he said.

“We teach life skills, self-reliance, teamwork, self-confidence, patriotism and help to develop the leaders of tomorrow, so thank you for making this special night happen,” said David Mott, Central Florida Council Director of Field Services.
