Mom accused of drowning teen daughter set for January competency hearing; Father charged with murder in 2022 child death

The Poinciana woman who police allege drowned her teenager daughter in a bathtub in their home will have a January hearing to determine if she is competent to stand trial for the crime.

Kelsey Glover, 35, is charged with the murder of her 14-year-old daughter Giselle. Police say the mother put the girl in the bathtub, grabbed her by the hair and held her head under water, then threatened a roommate trying to stop the violence with a hammer, chased her into another bathroom and struck the bathroom door with the hammer.

Police said they had to pry a hammer out of Glover’s hands and that she told the victim “that she wanted to kill her.” The girl died after transport to a local hospital.

Last week, Glover’s defense team filed a motion to state there are reasonable grounds to believe she is not competent for trial. The motion noted Glover “does not have the capacity to appreciate the charges, appreciate the possible penalties, understand the adversarial nature of the legal process.”

With the report from the Competency Evaluation pending, a doctor’s evaluation “verbally opined” that she is not competent to proceed and does meet the criteria for involuntary hospitalization. A courthouse competency hearing has been scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 29 at 9 a.m.

A day later, the State Attorney’s Office formally indicted Glover on charges of first degree murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Rhodes charged with murder in 2022 child death

Last week an Osceola County grand jury formally indicted Larry Rhodes, 25, for first degree Murder, two counts of aggravated child abuse and four counts of child abuse for the murder of his son and the felony abuse of his five other children.

On July 5, 2022, the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office responded to a hotel in Kissimmee and found an unresponsive young boy. The child later died at the hospital. Investigators determined the boy died from injuries sustained from child abuse and found evidence other children in the hotel room suffered from physical abuse and neglect. Evidence included the bottom of a sandal, which investigators said the parents had used to punish any of the children who misbehaved — it clearly showed blood on it.

At the time, Sheriff Marcos Lopez called the discovery "One of the worst cases of child abuse in Osceola County history, and the worst I've ever seen.”

Both Rhodes at the children's mother, Bianca Blaise,  27, also charged with second-degree murder and a slew of child abuse and neglect charges, remain in the Osceola County Jail on no bond.
