A man was found dead inside a burning home Monday morning at the Remington golf community after gunshots were heard.

Dispatchers received multiple 911 calls starting about 4:30 a.m. that a home on Strathmore Circle was on fire and that gunshots were being fired. When the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office and Fire Rescue arrived on scene, the house was fully engulfed in flames and a neighbor was suffering from gunshots wounds. He was hospitalized in stable condition.

While firefighters were working on the fire, gunshots were heard again and both firefighters and deputies took cover, according to Sheriff’s Office Maj. Jacob Ruiz.

The Sheriff’s Office SWAT team arrived on scene and secured the location. When SWAT team members went into the home, they found the male victim. Ruiz said it was too early in the investigation to determine what occurred and the man found was not identified. However, several nearby homes had bullet holes as wells as some of the fire engines, Ruiz noted.

The state Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire.

The investigation is ongoing.
