2 other gun deaths in city remain unsolved
The City of Kissimmee Police Department continues to seek help from the public to identify a person of interest in a homicide case, one of two that occurred on Thursday, March 30.
Another deadly shooting that afternoon, and a third two weeks prior have also gone unsolved thus far.
According to investigators, at around 11 a.m. 18-year-old Dheilier Cabrera was shot and killed on the Kissimmee bike path between Thacker Avenue and Dyer Boulevard in the area behind the Vineyards Apartments and the Cascades Apartments. A 17-year-old was also shot in the foot and suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
Based on surveillance video, KPD detectives are searching for a person of interest, wearing black pants, a white shirt and white shoes at the time seen in the area around the time of the shooting.
As reported on AroundOsceola.com on March 30, that shooting was one of two gun fatalities that occurred in the city that day. One person was killed, another wounded in a parking lot and another injured by a stray bullet around 1:50 p.m. while driving by on Vine Street. The incident occurred in a restaurant parking lot at Vine and Main, where at least 10 evidence markers showed spent shell casings in the lot.
Employees of nearby stores in the shopping center that shares the expansive parking lot said they heard as many as seven shots ring out. When they came out of the store to check it out, they saw a person — no information if the person was male of female — lying shot in the parking lot. The first responders on the scene rendered aid and CPR, and the victim was then taken away in an unknown vehicle, the employees said.
The incident necessitated the closure of Vine Street from Orange Blossom Trail/Main Street and Central Avenue for about two hours. While a formal arrest has not been made, a KPD official said the agency has yet to get a formal statement or confession from those it does think could have been responsible.
KPD is also investigating another shooting death that happened on March 18 along Central Avenue, just two blocks from Thursday afternoon's shooting.
Police officials says all three are considered isolated incidents, targeted to their victims.
