The Kissimmee City Commission has approved the purchase of six No Smoke Direct Source Capture Exhaust Protection Systems to improve firefighter safety in the Kissimmee Fire Department (KFD).
“The Ward ‘No-Smoke’ is an essential component on all of our responding fire vehicles. These systems remove harmful, carcinogenic diesel fumes coming off vehicles away from our firefighters living and work areas. As firefighters face a greater risk of developing cancer, this is one important step in reducing those chances,” said Kissimmee Fire Chief Jim Walls.
These devices are apparatus-mounted filters that provide complete protection from harmful diesel exhaust no matter where the vehicles are located. The total cost for these six systems is $52,434.36.
