Those who live in Poinciana either tell everyone they know about their time-consuming commute sitting in traffic … or they’re tired of that topic.
That their commute to work or other activities is bad is not news. That one study it is the most time-consuming commute in the country … still might not be news.
But stats don’t lie, and according to nationwide data culled by online investment advising site FinanceBuzz, commuters in Poinciana spend an average of 51 minutes driving to and from work.
FinanceBuzz collected U.S. Census data for the mean commute times of nearly 650 cities in the United States. Using that data, we were able to determine the city in each state where the commute time was highest. Through that research, they were able to show that commute is nearly double that of the average in the rest of the state; Florida has an average commute of just over 28 minutes.
FinanceBuzz said it last ran those numbers in 2023, and the Poinciana commute has increased eight minutes in that time.
“This time could be influenced by workers commuting to Orlando, which is located about an hour away,” the FinanceBuzz report states.
The study showed other American cities, usually it’s biggest ones, have comparable commute times, but all shorter than Poinciana. In comparison, some of the higher commute times from the study include:
• Brentwood, Calif. (a suburb of Los Angeles), 46 minutes;
• East Orange, N.J. (just south of New York City), 41.7;
• New York City, 40;
• Waldorf, Maryland (Washington D.C. suburb), 38.5;
• Quincy, Mass. (Boston suburb), 38.4;
• South Fulton, Ga., (outside Atlanta), 35;
• Chicago, 33; So, Poinciana residents, while you wait for the Southport Connector, which is expected to bring some relief to Cypress Parkway, be patient, and know that, according to FinanceBuzz, you’ve earned the title of “Longest-taking commute in America”!
