Osceola County Fire Rescue & EMS, along with crews from the city of Kissimmee Fire Department and Polk County Fire Rescue responded this morning to a residential structure fire on Aurelia Court, near the intersection of Monterey Road and KOA Street in Poinciana.
Crews provided an emergency rescue to a resident trapped inside from the second floor, as the two-story home’s upper floor had begun to collapse, and transported the victim to a burn unit for further care.
The cause of the blaze is not yet known, however the State Fire Marshal will be conducting an investigation. The home is a total loss.
The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) advises that fire can spread rapidly through your home, leaving as little as one or two minutes to escape safely once the smoke alarm sounds. A closed door may slow the spread of smoke, heat and fire. Install smoke alarms in every sleeping room and outside each separate sleeping area. Install alarms on every level of the home.
Pull together everyone in your household and make a plan. Walk through your home and inspect all possible exits and escape routes. Households with children should consider drawing a floor plan of your home, marking two ways out of each room, including windows and doors.
