Chances are that most area residents have heard of the Chamber of Commerce. But what do residents know about what the chamber does or what its role is in the community? The St. Cloud Greater Osceola Chamber of Commerce, along with several community member sponsors, will soon be providing what it plans to be a fun-filled community networking event to share its mission and to raise funds for some local nonprofit organizations, including its own nonprofit Education Foundation, which provides scholarships for students and adults in the greater St. Cloud area who are seeking to gain or improve their career skills.

As stated on its website, the chamber “is dedicated to advancing the general welfare and prosperity of the area, improving the business climate, advocating on behalf of our members and offering educational support through seminars, publications and business planning and mentoring.”

On Saturday, Feb. 8, the chamber will be hosting its inaugural 2020 St. Cloud Scavenger Hunt. Teams of four, led by their team captains, will compete for cash prizes. Registration is open to the community; participants needn’t be Chamber members.

What will the teams be scavenging for? These details are being kept under wraps until the day of the event to ensure an even playing field. What can be shared is that this will be a daylong event that will take participants on a journey to chamber members’ businesses throughout Osceola County.

The registration fee is $50 for each team of four, which includes a commemorative T-shirt for each team member. The naming of teams is encouraged. The day’s activities will kick off with breakfast (also included in the registration fee) at the St. Cloud lakefront near Crabby Bill’s Restaurant. The route and required activities will be revealed and the scavenger hunt will begin. Points will be awarded for each completed activity, and will be tallied to determine the winners at the awards ceremony at Crabby Bill’s Restaurant that afternoon. Teams must be present to win. The restaurant will be offering menu discounts to scavenger hunt participants. Team registration deadline is Feb. 1.

Why a scavenger hunt? Latanya Newell, the chamber events manager said, “We thought that it would be a cool and fun opportunity to bring the community together and get them out to visit the various Chamber members that we have here.”
