Congratulations to Dr. Donald Elton, board certified pulmonary and critical care physician at Poinciana medical Center, for being recognized as Poinciana Medical Center’s 2020 Physician of the Year.

Readers of this column may remember that it was Dr. Elton who reached out to several Poinciana social media groups to voice his concern of the community’s lack of awareness of the COVID-19 pandemic.

On March 27, 2020, he wrote in part, “that at this moment there are dozens of Poinciana residents either confirmed or strongly suspected of being sick with COVID-19. Many are with mild illness and are under instructions to quarantine at home while others are hospitalized and some are even in critical condition right here in Poinciana.”

At that time, Dr. Elton continued with: “Unfortunately, the majority of the people who already have COVID-19 are those who are enjoying their time socializing, shopping and working in many local businesses. Many will become our patients in the next two weeks.”

Poinciana Medical Center states, “Thanks to his (Dr. Elton’s) compassion, expertise and leadership, he has been so instrumental in providing exceptional care for our patients during the pandemic. Thank you, Dr. Elton for always being there for our patients and caring like family.”

He is a Poinciana superhero!
